Formerly Abuelitas New Mexican Kitchen, the owners of Cocina Familia are keeping alive the traditional New Mexican dishes beloved by residents of the Albuquerque South Valley for over 30 years.

Greetings,

As the new owners, we welcome you to Cocina Familia, formerly Abuelita’s New Mexican Kitchen.  We chose the name Cocina Familia for two reasons; First, we could not use the Abuelita’s name because there is another Abuelita’s restaurant in Bernalillo, which is still in use by the current owner.  Second, we wanted a name that represents how we have felt about eating here over the years, and about the experience we want our customers to have.  We want you to feel like family!

Like many of our loyal customers, we are residents of the south valley and have eaten here since they opened.  If you live in the valley, you know that there are not a lot of choices for dining out without driving into the city.  If you don’t live in the valley, we welcome you and thank you for visiting us.  Our vision is to provide an atmosphere where our customers can enjoy a meal with family and friends and preserve a local establishment that is representative of traditions and community of the South Valley.,

Other than a few menu item additions, like the Green Chile Cheeseburger, the Wild Bill’s Special, Chicken Breast Plate, and the addition of some desserts we don’t plan on changing the menu or our recipes.  We are in the process of applying for a liquor license so that you can enjoy a cold beer, a nice glass of wine, or a margarita with your meal.
